Speaker’s Bureau

The Speaker’s Bureau provides the community with accurate and valuable health information and resources on a variety of topics including health professions, and HIV/AIDS. The Health Trust recruits and trains qualified volunteer speakers to present in schools and in the community.

Health Profession: In an effort to increase diversity of the health care workforce, The Health Trust launched the Health Profession Speaker Program. The program brings health professionals and college students to public high schools in Santa Clara County to speak directly to students about pursuing health careers. The program recruits health professionals from those careers with known deficits in workforce diversity. Targeted professions include:

  • Dentists
  • Dental Hygienists
  • Registered Dietitians
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Respiratory Therapists
  • EMTs/Paramedics
  • Physical Therapists
  • Physician Assistants
  • Diagnostic Technicians
  • Radiation Therapists
  • Registered Nurses
  • Physicians

The Health Trust coordinates with the school sites and the speakers to schedule presentations. Scheduling is flexible, and speakers are provided with resource materials to assist in preparing for and delivering the presentation. Presentations emphasize job responsibilities, career opportunities, and training process. Speakers share their personal experiences and encourage students to further explore health careers. Students gain exposure to new career opportunities and learn what steps to take to prepare for a career in health care. Audience - High School Only

Positively Speaking: Positively Speaking of Silicon Valley is a speakers program composed of HIV positive individuals. We provide well-trained speakers to present at schools, colleges, churches, businesses, etc. Speakers narrate their personal stories about HIV infection, putting a human face to the devastating disease. Topics covered during our presentations are basic facts about HIV, life before and after diagnosis, and prevention messages. Audience - Middle School aged and over
