Overview
Volunteer Opportunities
The Health Trust believes that advancing wellness in Silicon Valley requires more than just individual volunteers -- it requires the involvement of the community. Whether you are a student seeking an internship or fulfilling a community service requirement, a retiree, working professional, or someone in job transition, The Health Trust offers a volunteer opportunity to fit your interest and availability.
For additional information about the opportunities below, please contact Leif Christiansen at leifc@healthtrust.org.
The Food Basket and Meals On Wheels
The Food Basket provides food to homebound individuals, as well as individuals and families with HIV/AIDS. Volunteers are needed to help pack and deliver grocery bags of food, as well as hot meals to homebound residents through our Meals On Wheels Program. Volunteers are also needed to assist clients who come to the Food Basket center to pick up their food. You can also support our clients through an annual Holiday gift drive as well as year round Healthy Food Drives, and assembly of personal care packages. Both weekday and weekend opportunities are available.
Healthy Steps in Silicon Valley: Resources for health & fitness after 50
Become a trainedHealth Champion and promote lifelong health in Santa Clara County with Healthy Steps in Silicon Valley, a guide for adults 50+ for staying active in and outside the home, overcoming obstacles, affordable local resources, fall prevention, managing common health issues, and nutrition. Let usknow how you would like to be engaged: be trained and equipped to give or assist in 15, 30, or 60 minute presentations, attend fairs and other community events to promote Healthy Steps, help with publicity, lead or be involved in a regional taskforce team, or tell us what you would like to do!
Produce Mobile – Groups Only
Help pack and distribute produce from the Second Harvest Food Bank’s mobile unit to families receiving services at our Children’s Dental Center or Family Resource Centers. The Produce Mobile operates the 1st Wednesday of the month from 10am -2pm.
Silicon Valley HealthCorps
School and community gardens promote healthier eating and physical activity while enhancing civic engagement and our sense of community. They are a proven solution to the obesity epidemic, making nutritious food and physical activity more readily available to people of all ages. In an innovative partnership, The Health Trust has joined together with AmeriCorps and twelve local organizations to form the Silicon Valley HealthCorps. The goal of this collaboration is to use gardens, farm to school programs and the work of 37 AmeriCorps volunteers to bring fresh fruits, vegetables and education to residents of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
Community and School Gardens
We need your help in building and maintaining community gardens across Silicon Valley! Community gardens increase access to healthful, affordable produce and foster a sense of community. Our goal is to insure all Santa Clara County residents have access to affordable locally grown produce within 1/2 mile of their neighborhood. We are especially looking for corporate or community groups to volunteer. Whether it is just for a day, every week, every other week or every month, have fun and get connected with a garden by volunteering your time!
Administrative Support
We are always in need of volunteers to help us with office projects, filing, copying, and other administrative tasks. Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel is desired.
