Health Trust Announces Scholarships for Silicon Valley High School Students

Students who demonstrate a commitment to improving the health
of their school or community may apply

Today The Health Trust announced the availability of Student Wellness Champion scholarships for area high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership to promote and improve the health of their school or community. Students may apply for the $500 scholarship by submitting a short essay about their work at www.healthtrust.org/YEAH.

“This is an exciting opportunity to recognize student leaders in our community,” says Health Trust CEO Frederick J. Ferrer. “Perhaps most exciting, is that these students are improving the health of our schools and communities through peer-to-peer leadership and education. They are not looking to others for solutions, but taking the initiative to promote health themselves—often through some very creative channels.”

Ferrer explains that through its work with the Youth Engaged in Advancing Health (YEAH!) Program, The Health Trust has already seen shining examples of students who have made their schools and communities a healthier place—ranging from leadership in physical activity, to community volunteer projects to peer to peer education.

“We look forward to reading the application essays and seeing the breadth and scope of leadership roles students have pursued,” says Ferrer.

Essays will be judged by a panel of Health Trust staff and community education leaders. Winners will be announced on May 31, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. at an end of the school year recognition event.
