It's Time to Get
Active!
Since 1983, May has been observed as National
Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Unfortunately, in Santa Clara
County only one quarter of our fifth graders are able to meet
six out of six state physical fitness standards. With summer just
around the corner, it's time to make plans to get active, especially
for kids who are going to be out of school.
Starting this month, The Health Trust has partnered
with San Jose Skate to provide discounts on skating! Studies have
shown that roller skating provides a complete aerobic workout and
involves all of the body's muscles, especially the
heart. Back to

This Mother's Day, Make a Gift in Honor of
Mom
|
"It's truly a big relief to have this
support for mom and I am amazed at the support it gives to me
as a caregiver." -Daughter of Meals On Wheels
client | May 10th is Mother’s
Day, but unfortunately too many mothers (and fathers) go hungry in
this country every day. Studies show more than one in every 10
seniors do not have ready access to enough food for an active,
healthy life and often need emergency assistance to meet their basic
needs. The
Health Trust Meals On Wheels program provides 97,000 meals
annually to individuals who are physically challenged, homebound, or
elderly, supporting their nutrition, health and independence. Among
all of our clients, 62 percent are women. This Mother’s Day,
consider making
a donation to The Health Trust Meals on Wheels in honor of your
mom. Back to top

Innovative Taste Test
 |
| Students at
Anzar High test the options for next year's
menu. |
To help combat obesity and promote student health,
Anzar High in San Benito County will launch a new healthier school
lunch program next fall - but what should they serve? To answer this
question, over 300 students participated in a two day “healthy food
taste test,” supported by The Health Trust.
Students tasted a variety of fruits and vegetables
from the school’s organic garden and from neighbor Earthbound Farms,
as well as a variety of other healthy dishes.
They then completed a survey about their
preferences. The results will inform next year’s menu. If your
child’s school would like to conduct its own taste test, please
contact NicoleK@healthtrust.org.
