Health Trust Announces Availability of Grants to Silicon Valley High Schools to Improve Student Heath and Wellness January 15, 2009, Campbell, CA - Health Trust CEO Frederick J. Ferrer announced today the availability of small grants and awards to Silicon Valley high schools to support student-driven, campus based projects that promote a healthier school community. “This is an exciting opportunity to encourage teens to think creatively and take action in their own school community to improve the health and wellness of their peers,” says Ferrer. Three types of grants and awards are available: Student Project Mini Grants: Up to 20 grants of up to $500 are available to support student-driven educational, community service or advocacy activities to promote a healthier school community. Healthy School Awards: Awards of $2500, $1500 and $1000 will be given to three area high schools that have demonstrated a commitment to a healthy school environment. Student Wellness Champion Awards: $500 will be given to the first 20 high schools who submit a nomination packet for the Healthy Schools Awards. Schools will select a student on their campus to recognize. Students will receive the awards at a recognition ceremony at the end of this school year.
In addition, The Health Trust is currently accepting applications for its 2009-2010 Youth Advisory Board. The Youth Advisory Board is made up of students from different high schools throughout the county who work year-round with The Health Trust to develop programs and resources that support student wellness activities.
